“I think it might be one of the better numbers. But then, it’s Harry.”
- Zach Woodlee, Glee choreographer
Mike Chang’s (Harry Shum, Jr.) very first solo performance from West Side Story was most definitely “cool” to say the least. It was also a musical standout of the episode, and not just because “Asian F” is a long-overdue episode all about Mike Chang – I think we can all pretty much agree on the fact that Harry Shum, Jr. is frickin’ amazing.
The choreography for “Cool” was killer as always, and I love the inclusion of the other football players. Most impressive to me was that, while Mike certainly doesn’t sound like he did the last time he tried to sing, his vocals aren’t OMGlee-amazing. So it really feels as if this performance is the culmination of his character rehearsing and rehearsing and doing his best to really give this his all. (This could also be because Harry himself had to bone up on his vocals but hey, I can pretend he’s even more amazing than he already is.)
Personally, I couldn’t have asked for a better episode filled with Mike moments. What did you all think of Mike’s scenes and solo performance in “Asian F”?
